Frequently
asked questions.
Crate dimensions, package contents, service boundaries, and the practical details of renting reusable moving boxes on the New Hampshire Seacoast.
The crates
What exactly am I renting?−
A matched set of blue HDPE moving crates with attached lids, plus one or two tote dollies depending on your package. Each crate measures 27.3 × 17.2 × 12.6 inches, holds 2.5 cubic feet, and weighs 7.7 pounds empty.
How much can one crate hold?+
The container has a published load rating up to 100 pounds, but that is not a lifting recommendation. Pack each crate only to a weight you can safely carry. Use smaller loads for books, dishes, and other dense items.
Why rent crates instead of buying cardboard boxes?+
Attached lids close without tape, rigid walls keep their shape, and every crate shares the same footprint for orderly stacking. When you finish unpacking, there is no cardboard pile to break down.
The service
Is Latchcrate a moving company?+
No. Latchcrate rents reusable moving boxes. You arrange your own moving help, vehicle, and transportation.
Will Latchcrate move my belongings?+
No. We focus on the boxes used for packing. We do not load, drive, transport, or unload customer belongings.
Service area
Where does Latchcrate deliver?−
Automated checkout currently serves Barrington, Dover, Durham, Epping, Exeter, Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, Lee, Madbury, New Castle, Newfields, Newington, Newmarket, North Hampton, Portsmouth, Rye, Seabrook, and Stratham, New Hampshire. Both delivery and pickup addresses must be in this service area.
Is delivery and pickup included?+
Yes. Every package includes free delivery and pickup across the New Hampshire Seacoast. You do not have to collect or return the empty rental equipment; you still pack and move your belongings.
Pricing
How much does a rental cost?−
Two-week packages are $129 for Studio (20 crates + 1 dolly), $159 for 1-Bedroom (30 crates + 1 dolly), $199 for 2-Bedroom (40 crates + 2 dollies), $279 for 3-Bedroom (60 crates + 2 dollies), and $379 for 4-Bedroom (85 crates + 3 dollies). NH Seacoast delivery and pickup are included.
Can I rent for one week, or build my own size?+
Yes. The three smaller packages (Studio, 1-Bedroom, 2-Bedroom) are available for 1 or 2 weeks: 1-week prices are $99, $119, and $149. The 3-Bedroom and 4-Bedroom packages are a 2-week minimum. You can also build your own rental of 20 to 120 crates for 1 to 8 weeks; 1-week rentals are for up to 40 crates. Custom prices are computed from the same rate card and shown live before you reserve.
Are there any other checkout charges?+
Checkout includes the listed rental price and a separate $100 refundable deposit. No sales tax is added for the current New Hampshire-only service. The deposit is refunded after pickup inspection, less any documented late-return or replacement amount described below. Optional packing accessories (add-ons) are charged at checkout and are yours to keep.
Rental terms
How long is a rental?−
You choose the delivery date and the pickup date. The two-week packages cover up to 15 calendar days (both ends included); the 1-week versions cover up to 8 days. A build-your-own rental of N weeks covers up to N × 7 rental days, so an 8-week custom rental can run about two months. Pickup must be after delivery and within your chosen rental length.
When will delivery and pickup happen?+
Your paid reservation confirms the dates and equipment. Latchcrate will contact you afterward to confirm the exact arrival windows. You are responsible for providing safe, lawful access to both addresses.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?+
Cancel at least 48 hours before the scheduled delivery date for a full refund, or reschedule without a fee subject to inventory availability. Cancellations inside 48 hours are not refundable except where required by law or when Latchcrate cannot provide the reserved service.
What if delivery cannot be completed?+
If customer absence or inaccessible premises prevent delivery, one redelivery attempt is included. Any further service must be arranged with support and quoted before it is charged.
Are dollies available?+
Yes — each package includes one or two tote dollies depending on size.
What happens if a crate or dolly is lost or severely damaged?+
Normal wear is not charged. Documented loss or damage is $49 per crate and $149 per dolly. The amount is deducted from the $100 refundable deposit first. If documented charges exceed the deposit, Latchcrate gives advance notice and may make one charge for the remaining documented amount using the payment method Stripe saved at checkout.
What if my pickup date passes and the crates aren't ready?+
Contact us before pickup if you need more time. After a customer-side failed pickup, a late amount accrues at $14 per day for no more than 7 days ($98 maximum); it is not charged daily. We record the failed pickup, notify you, and make a day-3 call. The accrued amount is deducted from the deposit first. Only a documented remainder may be charged later, once, after those steps. A completed pickup scan stops the late process.
Do you save my card?+
At checkout, Latchcrate asks Stripe to save the payment method for the limited late-return and loss/damage terms on this page. We use the captured $100 deposit first. An additional off-session charge is allowed only for a documented remainder after advance notice, a failed pickup record or your request for more time, and a logged day-3 call. It is one charge for the remaining documented amount, not a daily recurring charge.
Who handles the move?+
You pack, load, transport, unload, and unpack your belongings. Latchcrate rents and delivers the empty crates and dollies; it is not a moving company and does not handle customer property.
